LOVE CHANGES

Shamrock and Clover

There once was a hound with a heart made of gold,

A giant so gentle, so brave and so bold.

Shamrock, they called him, so loyal and true,

And the love for his mom only deeper it grew.

He watched every sunset right there by her side,

A shadow of loyalty, patient and wide.

But one silent day, without warning or sign,

He left her in sorrow before it was time.

Her world lost its color, her laughter its light,

The days fell to quiet, the stars dimmed at night.

But Shamrock, from where the sky reaches the land,

Still watched her with love and stretched out his hand.

He saw how she cried, how her spirit would bend,

So he whispered to heaven, “Please let me send

A gift from my heart, a part of my soul,

To help her find joy again, make her feel whole.”

And so came young Clover with paws full of spring,

With mischief and kindness and light she would bring.

Her eyes held a spark that was tender and wild,

A new kind of comfort, a new kind of child.

She curled in the places where Shamrock once lay,

And filled up the silence with games and with play.

And though not the same, her warm spirit grew

Into something both healing and wondrously new.

Sometimes in her glance or the tilt of her head,

You’d swear it was Shamrock returned from the dead.

A whisper, a nudge, a soul’s gentle cover—

In Clover he watched, her guardian brother.

So now when the wind stirs the grass in the glen,

She smiles through the tears she remembers again.

For grief may be deep and goodbyes may be hard,

But love never leaves—it just changes its guard
