IN LOVING MEMORY OF SHAMROCK
Beloved Guardian. Gentle Giant. Forever Loved.
Feb. 21, 2019 – Oct. 12, 2024
Shamrock was more than a dog. He was a guardian, a companion, a gentle giant, and a presence that filled our lives in a way words can never fully capture.
He walked beside us through ordinary days and extraordinary moments. He made us laugh, made us feel safe, and left an imprint on our hearts that time will never erase.
This page is dedicated to his memory — to the life he lived, the love he gave, and the legacy that continues in all that followed him.
A Light for Shamrock
This candle burns for Shamrock —
loved always, missed forever, forgotten never.
About Shamrock
Shamrock was extraordinary in every sense of the word.
At 36 inches at the shoulder, he was impossible to miss, but it was never just his size that made him unforgettable. He had a presence that felt ancient and deeply knowing, as though he carried something timeless within him. He could be dignified, funny, gentle, protective, and stubborn — sometimes all at once.
He was our guardian on woodland walks, our steady companion, and a dog whose quiet huff could say more than most words ever could. He was magnificent, deeply loved, and entirely himself.
Most importantly, he was ours.
Shamrock on his first morning home.
Remembering Shamrock
Shamrock’s life cannot be defined by its ending.
His final five weeks were filled with fear, heartbreak, anger, frustration, confusion, and an increasingly desperate fight to save him. But they were also filled with extraordinary love, unwavering devotion, and a determination to do everything within our power for the boy we loved so dearly. Those weeks left wounds that time has not healed and questions that have yet to be answered. That part of his story matters, and someday it deserves to be told. But those five weeks were not his life. They cannot overshadow the five and a half wonderful years that came before them.
He was joy. He was presence. He was protection. He was laughter. He was family.
He will always be remembered not only for how deeply he was loved, but for how deeply he loved in return.
The Walk Continues
Emerald Hounds Abound exists, in part, because of Shamrock.
After losing him, I struggled to find a way to honor not only the grief of losing him, but the extraordinary love of having known him. I did not want Shamrock to be forgotten. He was such an extraordinary soul that I felt compelled to create something worthy of him — something that would carry his memory forward and make sure his presence in this world did not simply fade with time.
That desire became Emerald Hounds Abound.
What began as a way to honor one extraordinary dog grew into a world of stories, history, humor, and love centered on the remarkable place Irish Wolfhounds hold in our lives. Through that work, Shamrock still walks beside us. Those who knew him could never forget him, and those who never had the honor of meeting him then now have the chance to meet him through the stories, the memories, and everything EHA has become.
Clover and Hooligan brought new life, laughter, and chaos into our home, and while they could never replace him, they are part of the continuing story that love made possible.
Shamrock’s place is forever his.
And still, because of all he gave us, the Walk continues.
Forever Our Boy
Some souls leave an imprint so profound that even time cannot diminish their presence. Shamrock was one of those souls.
He will forever be part of our family, our memories, our adventures, and every story yet to be told. Though we can no longer walk beside him as we once did, the love that began those walks has never ended.
Something ancient still walks with us.
Forever our boy. Forever part of the Pack. ❤️🐾
